If you install SQL Server 2005 SP3, you must use Cumulative update package 3 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=165748).

If you install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP1, you must install Cumulative update package 2 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=165962).

When you install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP1, you might receive a compatibility warning. You can disregard this warning and continue with your installation.

The Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies 2010 Preparation Tool does not check your Microsoft SQL Server install version before Setup. The SharePoint Product and Technologies Configuration Wizard checks that you have the correct version of SQL Server after you have completed Setup.

Cc262485.note(en-us,office.14).gifNote:
You must download an update for Windows Server 2008 before you run Setup, or Setup will not run.

The Beta version of the Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies 2010 Preparation Tool does not install these updates.

Cc262485.note(en-us,office.14).gifNote:
If you are running Windows Server 2008 with SP1, the Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies 2010 Preparation Tool installs Windows Server 2008 SP2 for you.

Cc262485.note(en-us,office.14).gifNote:
If you plan to use Windows Server 2008 and Windows PowerShell 1.0 is already installed, you must uninstall Windows PowerShell 1.0 before you can successfully install Windows PowerShell 2.0 CTP3.

Cc262485.note(en-us,office.14).gifNote:
You must download the Microsoft Server Speech Platform and the corresponding speech recognition language to make the phonetic name matching work correctly for SharePoint Search 2010. Ensure that you apply these to all servers in the farm.

Select one of the following speech recognition languages:

Additionally, you must update the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech Server\v10.0\Recognizers\Tokens\SR_MS_<LocalCode>_TELE_10.0\Attributes] registry key for every language that you install. Click Start, and then run regedit. Find the registry key, and then update the Vendor value to Microsoft Corporation.

This registry key change may cause errors for administrators who use Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 or any other products that depend on the speech technology, but it is required for the phonetic matching to work correctly.

The Beta version of the Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies 2010 Preparation Tool does not install these updates.

Cc262485.note(en-us,office.14).gifNote:
If you plan to use Access Services for SharePoint Server 2010, you must install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint Technologies (SSRS). For more information, see Using Access Services with SQL Reporting Services: Installing SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services Add-In (SharePoint Server 2010).

Installing software prerequisites

To install Windows Server 2008 or Microsoft SQL Server, you can go to the Web sites listed in this section. You can install all other software prerequisites through the SharePoint Server 2010 Start page. Most of the software prerequisites are also available from Web sites listed in this section.
